Product Development Chemist / Research and Development
Job Description
Immediate need for a Product Development / Research and Development Chemist for manufacturer based in Laurens, SC.
The role of the Development Chemist in this position is product development and support of our current monolith and particulate based catalysts. The products are made at the lab and pilot-scale in our labs and transferred to production for commercial scale. These catalysts cover a range of applications in emission control and process chemistry. The job involves preparation of heterogeneous catalysts, characterization, and reactor testing of the catalysts. It also involves new product development related to catalysts. In addition, the lab provides analytical support such as elemental analysis and particle size measurements as needed.
This job involves state of the art R&D in heterogeneous catalysis as we develop new products for our customers. Strong chemical lab skills are required, as is an interest in learning and growing as a chemical scientist. Attention to detail is a must, as is good documentation and data analysis skills.
Job Duties Include:
- Preparation of solutions containing metal or metal oxide precursors
- Application of solutions to solid supports using a variety of established methods and some new methods
- Synthesis of solid supports in some cases, which may involve wet chemistry and some form of extrusion.
- Ordering chemicals and equipment as needed.
- Analytical measurements such as atomic absorption spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption, particle size analysis, gas chromatography.
- Testing of catalysts in lab reactors.
- Development and documentation of lab procedures.
- Maintaining a lab notebook, writing technical reports.
Qualifications:
- BS or Associates in Chemistry
- Experience in a R&D manufacturing environment
- Wet chemical experience related to inorganic materials and heterogeneous catalyst production and scale-up
- Experience with wash coat preparation, paints and coatings
- Experience with reactor system construction and automation
- Mechanical skills, instrument maintenance
- Analytical testing and method development experience
