Job Description

Direct Hire opportunity for a Safety Manager for a well-established, large-scale food manufacturer in Tucker, GA. This direct hire opportunity offers a competitive salary of $75,000-$100,000 (based on experience), and the chance to lead safety and environmental compliance for a high-volume manufacturing facility.

As Safety Manager, you'll partner with plant leadership to ensure compliance with safety and environmental procedures while driving a zero-incident culture. You'll provide safety and environmental leadership by implementing, communicating, and sustaining plant systems, conducting regular audits, and reporting results to the Plant Manager and leadership team. This role requires flexibility to adjust schedule to maintain presence on off-shifts and participate in employee events.

Job Duties:

Safety & Environmental Program Leadership

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety and environmental programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Provide direction, training, education, and technical support to ensure effective deployment of safety and environmental policies
  • Partner with plant management for successful completion of regulatory audits
  • Design, develop, and implement hazardous waste management plans at the facility
  • Measure and monitor overall safety and environmental performance; identify opportunities for improvement

Regulatory Compliance & Technical Support

  • Understand federal and state occupational safety and health regulations and monitor for regulatory changes
  • Maintain licensing with county and state agencies
  • Provide safety technical support to all departments to eliminate potential injury or exposure
  • Oversee wastewater systems and required documentation
  • Manage ammonia systems and associated compliance requirements

Emergency Preparedness & Response

  • Develop emergency response team and ensure appropriate training in emergency response, spill response, disaster preparedness, and crisis management
  • Ensure drills and equipment are in a ready state

Goal Setting & Performance Management

  • Work with plant leadership teams to develop plant safety goals; create and implement plans to achieve goals and KPIs
  • Drive and promote zero incident culture and employee engagement throughout the facility
  • Establish performance standards and manage workload priorities

Incident Investigation & Prevention

  • Direct accident investigation programs, identify accident trends, and develop programs for improving performance
  • Conduct incident investigations, complete necessary reports, make recommendations, and follow through with corrective actions
  • Ensure complete and effective incident, near miss, and first aid reporting with root cause analysis
  • Develop and maintain safety and environmental data processes to manage and report injuries, illnesses, environmental metrics, and risk assessments

Auditing & Risk Management

  • Ensure internal facility safety audits are completed regularly to detect existing or potential risks and hazards
  • Complete risk assessments and recommend control measures for all potential areas of concern
  • Ensure contractors have effective safety processes through pre-qualifications and monitoring/auditing
  • Evaluate nonstandard tasks to uncover risks and identify corrective actions

Collaboration & Partnership

  • Partner with HR on workers' compensation programs including transitional duty and return to work programs
  • Support food safety program, quality standards, and legality of manufactured products through adherence to plant GMPs
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Management or equivalent work experience
  • OSHA certification preferred
  • Minimum 10+ years of maintenance experience
  • Minimum 10+ years of supervisory experience in maintenance
  • Minimum 3 years of experience implementing and sustaining safety programs
  • Manufacturing experience required; food manufacturing experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with wastewater systems and required documentation
  • Knowledge and experience with ammonia systems and associated compliance requirements
  • Experience maintaining licensing with county and state agencies
  • Extensive working knowledge of regulatory requirements for federal and state programs, processes, and program implementation strategies
  • Familiarity with state environmental regulations preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and computer-based applications
  • Ability to develop, conduct, and maintain training programs using lecture, PowerPoint, or practical methods
  • Proven leadership in establishing performance standards, managing workload priorities, and developing team capability
  • Strong leadership, team-building, and coaching skills with an intense desire to drive positive change
